"Noah Everyday"

Does the idea of documenting a still image of yourself each day for 6 years straight offer the possibility of glimpsing into the invisible concept of aging and change? His expression appears to stay the same over time which is maybe a statement about the perception that we change very little as we age. Also can we ever really experience a person through still images even if their our continuously experienced? And why is it that while you can see several photos of a person and still feel like you do not know them? Our associations--rather our expectations sometimes are more powerful than what we can comprehend from one or in this case hundreds of visual moments.

On a separate, but related note, I recently heard that the number one determinant in liking a song has to do with familiarity. In different words, our tendency to like a song has mainly related to our having heard the song before. Similarly the number one factor in choosing a mate, according to a Human Bonding class taught at Cornell University, is location, not intelligence or physical beauty. Our associations and biological needs seem to be shaped through familiarity, location and proximity to what is available not necessarily optimal.

Perhaps our associations are similar to surface tension (also defined as an elastic sheet) hold a meaning separate to what is beneath. Our assocations could be seen as a fragile sheeth holding a collective reality necessary for survival, but not relevant to the different properties of the matieral below.
